The Human Behind the Patents

Who I Am & What Shaped Me

Hi, I'm Stewart—patent agent, former lawyer, runner, and full-time dad. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, surrounded by mountains, pine trees, and relentless curiosity. My journey has never been a straight line: psychology degree, law school, a decade in patent law, another degree in computer science, and the wild adventure of fatherhood. Every twist taught me patience, humility, and the remarkable power of saying, “I don’t know, let’s figure this out together.”

Vulnerability, Quirks & Humor

Like many creative, driven people, anxiety has always been part of my story—something I’ve learned to embrace and manage, often fueling empathy and deeper connections with my clients. It’s taught me patience, perspective, and genuine compassion for anyone facing uncertainty or stress in their own innovation journey.

My quirks: I talk to myself—a lot—and claim it’s brainstorming. My beard is my kids’ favorite toy. I’m convinced the best ideas happen as you're falling asleep, and the best conversations always start whenever you least expect them to.
Real talk: I once had a call with a patent examiner while changing my toddler's diaper. Lesson learned: Multitasking is great—but always keep the mute button handy.

Personal Rules & Real Talk
Life Journey & Lessons from Outside Work

Fatherhood taught me real negotiation skills—toddlers have no mercy. Running and mountain biking taught me resilience: no matter how tough the road, one foot in front of the other gets you there. My time away from law showed me that success isn’t just measured by hours billed, but by how deeply you connect and impact the people around you. My greatest lesson? Ideas matter, but relationships matter more.

Why I Care

I genuinely believe the world needs more dreamers and fewer gatekeepers. Inventors and entrepreneurs don’t just create products—they create futures. Too often, brilliant ideas die in paperwork and doubt. I’m determined to change that, one patent application at a time. My mission isn’t just professional; it’s deeply personal. I do this because I’ve seen firsthand how empowering it is to help someone take a leap—from doubt and confusion to confidence and clarity. That feeling never gets old.
