This site is general information, not legal advice
Everything on cognivito.com, including the blog, guides, FAQs, presentations, and downloadable materials, is general information about intellectual property and related legal topics. It is not legal advice for your situation. Legal outcomes depend on specific facts, and the law changes. Do not act or refrain from acting based on anything you read here without talking to a lawyer about your specific circumstances.
Reading this site or contacting me does not make you a client
Visiting this website, reading its content, sending a message through a contact form, booking an introductory call, or emailing me does not create an attorney-client relationship. An attorney-client relationship with me is formed only when we both agree to it, which I confirm in a written engagement agreement that describes the scope of the work.
Please do not send confidential details before we agree to work together
Until an engagement is in place, please do not send confidential details about your invention, your business, or any dispute. A short, general description of your situation is all I need to follow up. Initial inquiries receive the limited protections the law gives prospective clients, but those protections are narrower than the duties owed to a client, and I may be unable to take your matter, including for conflict-of-interest reasons.
No guarantees
Descriptions of services, past matters, or client experiences on this site do not predict or guarantee the outcome of your matter. Every patent application, trademark filing, and legal question turns on its own facts.
Where I practice
I am licensed to practice law in Oregon and registered to practice in patent matters before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO Registration No. 66,548). Because USPTO practice is federal, I handle patent matters and federal trademark matters for clients nationwide. Legal services beyond USPTO practice, including trade secret counseling, copyright counseling, state-law questions, and AI governance work, are offered to Oregon clients. This website is not intended to solicit legal work in any jurisdiction where its content would not comply with that jurisdiction's rules.
Links and third-party content
Links to other websites, articles, or organizations are provided for convenience. They are not endorsements, and I am not responsible for third-party content.
